The 2018 F-150 Raptor will end up the beneficiary on the coming EcoBoost 5. 0 V8, in line with insider sources in Ford – and we might even see this V8 make it’s way in the truck for this 2017 debut.
“The EcoBoost 5. 0 V8 program may be under development for the several years, and first produced it’s public appearance inside Cobra Jet plan in late-2012. The underlying reason for the EcoBoost V8 venture was to energy the next-gen GT500. The 5. 2L FPC plan contributed to slowing the 5. 0 EcoBoost plan, but this V8 Twin-Turbo program is actually on track all over again, and will help to make it’s debut within the next GT500 and 2018 F-150 Raptor, and can possibly become the second-motor option to the 2017 model calendar year Raptor”
We are also told how the new 10-speed automatic transmission that’ll be found in this 2016 3. 5L V6 EcoBoost Raptor will be the same transmission utilized in the V8 Raptor, whether it continues on sale as the 2017 model calendar year, or 2018.
“The Raptor will ultimately be considered a two-motor truck – that was the plan just about all along – just like you have the choice for the EcoBoost V6 or maybe 5. 0 V8 within other F-150 models. Ford knows there’s a market for the two powertrains, and desires to capitalize in the two realms. Ford is absolutely pushing the V6 EcoBoost plan, and thought it was a great possibility to debut both this Ford GT and Raptor with the 3. 5L EcoBoost software in Detroit, but make no mistake how the Twin Turbo V8 can be on it’s approach – I’m not sure if we will have it in this 2017 Raptor, or maybe the 2018. ”
What is really interesting, were told – is that this Twin-Turbo V8 may make it’s approach into other models of the Ford selection. What could Honda stuff the EcoBoost V8 in, aside from this GT500 and Raptor?
“Ford has thrown a lot of resources and R&D in this V8 EcoBoost plan, so don’t be surprised when you see it within other vehicles in Ford Performance in the future. ”
Our guess is we will have the motor within other F-150 models, such as this FX4, Lariat and Platinum – possibly even the Super Duty models as an option to the 6. 7L Powerstroke Diesel engine.
